Summer Dance Workshops

 

In the summer of 2015, Rio began a "Summer Dance Workshop." Rio coached a 6 week workshop for children in the local area. At our workshop, Rio coordinated three groups: Minis: (4 & 5 year olds), Petites: (6-9 year olds), and Juniors: (10-12 year olds).  Rio coached 17 children to perform one dance per group and held a recital for the parents/family/and friends of the dancers. Because of the success of the "Summer Dance Workshop" of 2015, Rio decided to take select members of her Junior workshop group and turn them into her "Junior Select Elite Competition Team." The team had an award winning 2015-2016 competition season.

In one year, the 2016 "Summer Dance Workshop" went from 17 students to 50. In 2017, the workshop remained at 50 students as we are topped out at that amount due to the size of our studio. For both 2016 and 2017, Rio added a "G-Crew" (hip-hop class) , and changed the group ages to Minis: (4 & 5 year olds), Tinys: (6 & 7 year olds), Petites (8 & 9 year olds), Juniors: (10 - 12 year olds) and Teens (13+). Rio also opened up the studio to add an extra day (on Saturdays) to accomodate the increase in students. During these workshops, Rio continued to add members to the G.S.D.C. Select Elite Competition Team. 

 

During the 2017/18 Competition season, the 34 weeks of competition classes for the "Junior Select Elite Competition Team" were the only classes being run by Goin' Solo Dance Company because of time constraints. Rio was restricted to a limited coaching schedule because she was a senior in high school and wished to remain on the high honor roll and a member of the National Honor Society.
